Airwoot is looking for a Team Lead Frontend Engineering to join our team in New Delhi, India.

The Team Lead Frontend Engineering will be a key member of Airwoot’s technical team reporting to the Head of Engineering, responsible for the development and constant evolution of our UX/UI. As Team Lead, the spectrum of responsibilities will also include managing the Frontend Engineering Team in their day to day tasks and any technical challenges they may face. The ideal candidate should be exposed to the startup culture and be willing to work in a high pressure environment with ambiguous requirements.

Product culture

At Airwoot, we believe in strong team, solid vision and consistent execution. One dimension which binds these characteristics is to have a strong product culture. A strong product culture means that the team understands the importance of continuous execution and learning.

  • We understand the need to break things in order to learn, but we break them faster and mitigate the risks.
  • We understand the need for continuous innovation.
  • We know that great products are the result of team collaboration.
  • We respect and value our designers and engineers.
  • We understand the power of motivated product team and engineering excellence.

Summary and Requirements

The frontend at Airwoot is built with BackboneJS. We expect you to have a basic familiarity with the ideas of MV* frameworks, and Backbone’s own implementation of MV*. If you are not using BackboneJS, we would like you to get some speed with the ideas and implementations.

As Backbone is a very minimal and un-opinionated library, we will also work with a lot of extensions, primarily, Marionette JS.

Apart from the frameworks and libraries, we want you to be a creative thinker. You would be responsible for building the architecture for a fairly complex application. So, you should have the ability to craft the application from a higher level.

You should also have an understanding of the workflow tools like Grunt or Gulp. Deployment strategies should be clear to you. The world of frontend changes fast. You should be an avid reader, be it books or articles. You got to keep looking out for the new Harmony goodness while having a strong grounding in the current ES5 standard. Although libraries and frameworks will always continue to exist, a deep knowledge of vanilla JS will help you to be a creator of such libraries.

Also, our product is heavy on analytics, so you have to be playful with chart libraries like D3.

Where CSS is concerned, knowledge of a pre-processor like Sass is a pre-requisite. You should also be familiar with ideas to write maintainable and extensible stylesheets. Any familiarity with SMACSS, OOCSS or BEM would count.

And lastly, you should be co-operative and willing to follow a coding standard that the team agreed upon. We mostly have adopted the principles of idiomatic javascript.
